In this article we will take a look at the basic SEO concepts and practices of
SEO or Search Engine Optimization.
The goal of SEO is one of informing the search bots or search spiders such as
googlebot, bingbot, and others on how to index or categorize a website.
SEO accomplishes some of this task through the use of meta tags
placed in the head statement of the html code.

The meta tags used for SEO are as follows

The first tag id the title tag and is the first line you see in a search
listing and for Google search results should be no more than 70 characters

The second meta tag used in SEO is the meta description tag and is next
be no more than 156 characters.
The meta description tag is the 2nd line of the listing

The third meta tag used is the Keywords meta tag
This tag helps define terms for search indexing this tag is no longer
as important as the title and description tags.
This tag is only seen by the search bot and not by the user.
This tag is no longer being used by google by itself due to abuse but
now is being used in combination with the content of the website.

Bing handles search for Yahoo so nothing to do there.
Also create a Google Webmasters Tools account.
Once you’ve created your webmasters tools accounts your are ready to submit your website to those search engines.

Then there’s Google Analytics google analytics
gives you the ability to see activity at the website. Things like how were you found? Search engine or
direct, number of visitors,where did the visitors come from by city or state or country, operating
system, carrier, what pages how and how long did they stay etc.

Some of the things to think about in designing your SEO strategy.

What is your market?
Worldwide is much different than local design.
Focus on a few search terms. Decide on your strengths.
Use everything to your benefit, image file names, html page names, alt text, all should be designed | tuned with SEO in mind.
